The Melawmen Collective was formed in 2009, with a vision to create connections between Indigenous People and others through stories, history, art and music. Its aim is to create the space to bring perspectives together so that new collaborations can be created, as a praxis of building and bonding historical consciousness, together, through the freedom creativity brings and allows. The collective offers workshops and musical performances of their collaborative work from its main artists that have working together since 2007 {Meeka Morgan (Secwepemc/Nuu-Chah-Nulth), Rob Hall (Canadian), George Ignace ~ Geo (Secwepemc/Cree)}, and others (including Secwepemc/Nuu-Chah-Nulth youth Kiva Morgan-Hall, who has been involved since the beginning, at 7 years old). They work on identified themes together, create in the moment, record albums based on their current experience, and then share the journey of the Stories created through their workshops, and/or learn the tunes they created and enjoy the most for live performances with other musically talented friends and comrades that they share this journey with. They are based in Secwepemculucw, otherwise known as the southern interior of what is now known as BC.
