ATTRACTIONS IN LOWER NICOLA

Promontory Mountain

Located off Hwy 8, turning at the Landfill Road onto Mountain Road you are off to a weather station that is approximately a 13.5km drive to the top. Walking on the cat track on the weather station the view is breath taking. The upper deck is a glassed in building for you to see this stunning view. This is a rough road a 4X4 is recommended. A scenic drive, a camera is definitely an asset. In for an adventure this is an attraction in the Lower Nicola area that will be worth the drive up for a view like no other.

Hoodoos

Traveling on Hwy 8 in Lower Nicola towards Spence’s Bridge you will reach a bridge in town you set your odometer 0. You will reach the first Hoodoos at 10km. The second is at 21km, the third at 41km and the fourth at 61km. These incredible natural structures stand tall and are for you enjoy on your journey. Look up and enjoy nature at it best.

Spius Creek

Located 17km west of Merritt off Hwy 8 turn on Spius Creek Road. This is a free tour, open 7 days a week from 9am to 3pm. An educational tour to the Salmon and Steelhead Habitat of this region. On your tour, you will experience the education and knowledge of the many years these people have made it possible for fish to be a part of our lakes, rivers and creeks. For those interesting taking a tour during spawning season, August and September, Chinook and November and December for Coho. A picnic area is available and the scenery surrounding this hatchery is stunning.

Stock Car Racing

This family event is racing at its best. This dirt track with seating for 500 people will have you sitting at the end of your seat and you watch these drivers racing. Its fun, exciting and the concession is one of the best in Merritt. Come and support these racers, and enjoy some fantastic racing. HORSESHOES

Located in Smiths Pioneer Park their horseshoe pits are built regulation standard. There are 12 courts, 24 pitches. The pits are open anytime but you must bring your own shoes. They have competitions twice a year. The Horseshoe Club meets Tuesday evening. Everyone is invited to come and play a game. They have members to help for those wanting a lesson.
