Makaro returns to GCCS Chair
May 11th, 2009 Ida Makaro, Councillor for the Village of Cache Creek was returned to serve another term as the president of the Gold Country Communities Society when the Annual General Meeting was held recently. Also re-elected to serve on the executive are Robin Fennell of Clinton as vice president, Sandy Williams of Ashcroft as treasurer and Barry Tait, Area I director as secretary. In a statement following election Makaro said the Society is looking forward to a very interesting and progressive year with the launching of the GeoTourism Program to take place in July. She praised the dedication and commitment of the staff, Heidi Roy and Amy Thacker for the significant progress that Gold Country has made in the past few years in tourism promotional work. “Many of the personal goals that I had set for Gold Country back in my first term in 2004 have been accomplished and now I, along with all the GCCS Board of Directors, am particularly excited about the new GeoTourism Program in the works that will bring many visitors into our area in the coming months and in the years ahead. “We will be working hard to ensure that all of our member municipalities and regional areas benefit from this program and in turn, encourage their excitement and participation with us –it’s offering us all a great economic opportunity. “We invite you to look forward to the crew that will be visiting your community in the near future to launch the new initiative, “GeoTourism in Gold Country.” Makaro has served on the Board of Directors for the Society since 1996 and served as president from 2004 to 2008, with a year off when former mayor of Merritt, David Laird was elected president.
