The peaceful community of Brookmere offers beautiful natural surroundings and fascinating rail heritage for visitors to explore.  

History

The community of Brookmere was once a stopping place on the Kettle Valley Railway. This was the central point between Princeton and Merritt, where the engines had to be re-watered and prepared for the rest of their journey. The last trains passed by the town in 1966, but fascinating vestiges of its rail history still remain.

Things To Do

KVR Water Tower, Caboose, fuel storage tank and railway roadhouse foundations.  Brookmere is home to the last remaining KVR water tower, which has been moved from its original location for preservation purposes.

GeoTourism.

The Gold Country GeoTourism Program is a great way to explore this region in more depth.  Use a GPS or clues to find hidden boxes in fascinating locations.  Keep an eye out for the ‘Brookmere’ cache while you are in the area.

Recreation

A picturesque recreational spot, take a dip in the Coldwater River on a hot day.  For nature lovers it is a perfect gateway to the Kane, Kettle, Otter and Voght Valleys as well as Thynne Mountain.  There are no amenities in Brookmere, so come prepared to enjoy this peaceful natural environment.

KVR trails.

175 km of rail bed await cyclists and hikers between Penticton and Brookmere.  For a shorter but scenic route that follows the Coldwater River, head north to Merritt.  Please note that cyclists and hikers are not permitted to travel along the rail bed where it enters First Nations land.  Detours can be made via the Coldwater Road.

ATV and motorbike trails.

Brookmere and surrounding areas are popular summer locations for the adventurous.  Please be respectful of these delicate ecosystems as you enjoy the scenic back country.
