A scenic drive out Hwy 5 North brings you to the Historic Quilchena Hotel. Joe Guichon bought the ranch and opened the Quilchena Hotel on July 3, 1908. It soon became the social and recreational meeting grounds for the valley, until World War I and the prohibition caused the hotel to close. In 1957 Guichon's grandson Guy and Hilde Rose bought part of the ranch back, and began to restore the building to its original state. Most of the furniture is original. The Roses, their children and grandchildren run the Ranch to this day. When you walk in the door, you are transported back in time to when this hotel was the main social and recreational meeting place. Ranchers and visitors to the area still find this hotel a place to meet.
The hotel has a coffee shop open for breakfast and lunch. The old wine cellar offers elegant fine dining with some of B.C.'s best cuisine. The 16 heritage rooms are quiet, and furnished with period antiques. If you are a guest you might like to observe and explore the working of a real cattle ranch. Tours of the ranch are available. The hotel is open May-October, with all the amenities that a western ranch has to offer.
Next to the hotel is the historic Quilchena Store that was built in 1912. Inside you will find an interesting selection of clothing, jewellery, western wear and art. They are famous for the Pendleton Wool Blankets that they sell. Postal service is available and they carry groceries.
Also beside the hotel is the Quilchena on the Lake Golf Course. This challenging 9-hole golf course, with well-manicured fairways and brilliant greens, is a fantastic way to spend a day or an afternoon. The Pro Shop is fully stocked and includes a snack bar, licensed bar, outdoor patio and banquet facilities. The course also features a 25-unit full service RV park.
Across from the Quilchena Hotel you find one of the finest spots for sailing and windsurfing. The long, narrow valley that was carved during the last ice age, funnels winds and makes this one of the best spots in the Province. There are several one and two person boats for training and rental purposes; and lessons are available so why not try your hand at sailing? It will be an experience of a lifetime. Windsurfing is also very popular here. Great locations for the skilled boarder and for the beginner.
